ABOUT

OUR CLINIC

Miller Vet Clinic was first owned and operated by Dr. Fred Hubbard in 1998. His passion and innovation set the foundation for the clinic.

In 2007, shortly after his graduation from Iowa State University, Dr. Eric Knock went to work for Dr. Hubbard and purchased the clinic in 2011 and later changed the name to Prairie View Veterinary Clinic. Dr. April Schilder became part owner of the clinic in 2016 after working with Dr. Knock for one year. Then in 2021 Dr. Katie Hunsucker-Brown bought into the clinic. Together, Dr. Knock, Dr. Schilder, and Dr. Hunsucker-Brown along with their Associate Veterinarians: Dr. Hailey Cain and Dr. Casey Duxbury have worked hard to grow and broaden Prairie View Veterinary Clinic to include four locations in Central South Dakota as well as expanding the provided services.

Additionally PVVC crews and veterinarians are hard at work weekly at the Fort Pierre Livestock Auction and Huron Continental Marketing. As the inspecting veterinarians at these livestock barns we are responsible for ensuring that the animals are accurately represented, maintain records, and write health certificates for transporting.

Dr. Eric Knock and his wife Roxanne live and work on their ranch near Tulare, SD where they are raising their four young children: Rylee, RaeAnna, Rielle, and Roy. Dr. Knock's dedication and hard work has solidified the success of Prairie View Veterinary Clinic, allowing for addition of five associate veterinarians and the expansion of staff in all the clinic locations. When he is away from the clinic he stays hard at work on their ranch, in between attending the kids' sports schedule and 4-H activities.

Dr. April Schilder, grew up in Athol, SD and graduated from Iowa State University in 2014 and came to work at the Miller Clinic. In 2015 she opened our third clinic in Highmore and became part owner of PVVC in 2016.  She primarily works out of Highmore office and her pickup.  Dr. Schilder strives to give exceptional care to staff and clients alike. She lives west of Faulkton, SD on a multigenerational ranch with her husband, Brady, young sons Levi and Cullen and little girl Auti.

Dr. Katie Hunsucker-Brown joined the team in March of 2017 after 2.5 years of practice in Eastern South Dakota.  Then in 2021 she invested into the ownership. She was born and raised in Montana and graduated from Colorado State University in 2014.  In October of 2017 she started our fourth clinic in Wessington Springs and is based out of there.  She lives in Wolsey, SD with her husband, Paul, and young daughters, Ottilia and Liora, where they enjoy being a part of their community and church activities.

Dr. Hailey Cain, from Lakefield, MN, graduated from Iowa State in 2019. While in vet school Hailey worked for the clinic during the summer of 2017 and during a variety of school breaks and externships. The combination of those work experiences and local friendships led to her joining the PVVC team shortly after graduation.  Dr. Hailey lives on an acreage south of Miller with her husband, Tanner Cain, and their dogs- Sofie, Max & Ruby. She grew up with an assortment of animals including many small ruminants. In her spare time, she likes to make a variety of Pinterest worthy projects. She can make beautiful things with spare change.

In the summer of 2022 we were blessed to have Dr. Casey (Kaltenbach) Duxbury come back to the clinic. She isn't a new face to the clinic as she grew up near Miller and was mentored at PVVC by Dr. Eric in between her school schedules. After she graduated Iowa State as a veterinarian she went onto work at StockVets in Indiana. This expanded her skill set and exposed her to new techniques in reproduction work with small and large ruminants. After several years in Indiana they felt it was time to come home to be near to family. Casey is married to Troy and they have two children: Evelyn and Parker. They have settled in the Wessington Springs area. Dr. Casey has a variety of interests and she maybe seen out running races.

At the beginning of 2024 we purchased our newest clinic in De Smet when Dr. Tim Salonen retired. We look forward to growing and serving in another community.

As a staff we are dedicated to providing comprehensive care for small and large animals. Our veterinarians live and work in the local communities where most of their neighbors are friends and clients.
